The master database of recorded sightings starting from January 2017 which can be interrogated by species or site or between date range. Most recent recorded sightings come first in case you just want to know what is about!
I am far from being the only wildlife enthusiast here in Dorset! There are a number of others who have a keen interest and spend hours visiting the wonderful natural places in Dorset, recording what they see and taking superb photographs. Some of this number post their main records and best photographs on Twitter and Facebook and the Nature of Dorset is able to pick up these valuable contributions to public knowledge and recycle them in various ways to help them reach a wider audience.
As well as re-tweeting and sharing posts on Facebook to widen their exposure the Nature of Dorset also stores these records and photographs, indexes them and displays them linked to the sites where they were seen and by species. This enhances and expands the information I have collected for many sites and species myself and, therefore, enables visitors to the Nature of Dorset website to find out much more about the county's wildlife and nature reserves. The main database of records is available to interrogate in several ways and there is a map of the sites that receive the most coverage as these tend to be the best sites in the county. You will also find records and photographs on species information pages where it is available.
The number of records and photographs increases daily and if you want the latest news then the first page of the database will give you a list of the most recent observations. If you are interested in historical data for research or just for general interest then there is an ever growing wealth of information available.
I am sure I have not identified all of the active amateur naturalists at work in the county. If your tweets or Facebook posts are not included and you would like them to be please let me know via the website contact form, there is a link to the contact form at the bottom of every page.
